ARTIST LETTER NO. 28

The Future That Shapes Us

On a question that keeps returning

Hi there,

A few weeks ago, in a previous letter, I wrote…

What if the future we're building is also building us?

It was a reflection on revisiting work I'd created years earlier — and realizing my past self had left me a message.

I didn't expect that line to travel.

But it did.

Dr. Michelle Greenwell, who hosts the podcast Be Well, and I were talking after she had read that letter. She said the question stopped her. She wanted to talk more about it.

So we did.

We explored how so much of life is spent pushing toward the future — effort and will, from the mental and the ego. But what if the future that's truly ours is already shaping us? In the choices we're drawn to. The rooms we keep stepping into. The movements our bodies keep asking for.

It was one of those conversations that kept opening.

I'm sharing this because the question is still working on me.

As I finish preparing "Broken" for November 1st, I feel it in my body. This solo isn't something I'm just creating. It's something that's been creating me — for years — and is only now ready to arrive.

If you'd like to listen, the full conversation is here: Be Well with Dr. Michelle Greenwell

Here's my invitation this week:

Where might your future already be shaping you — in ways you haven't fully noticed yet?

What keeps drawing you back, again and again?

I'd love to hear what surfaces.

With love,

Kristen
