ARTIST LETTER NO. 19

Movement as Ceremony

Coming home to yourself.

Hi there,

Last Wednesday I held a Dance Alchemy for the Soul® evening here in Hoboken.

I wanted to share a glimpse of what happened...

As we moved through the space in circles, arcs, and curves, it was like being in the vastness of nature.

It created curiosity and activated our sense of wonder.

We didn't feel a need to perform.
But to feel like we were at home with ourselves again.

There was something else in the room too:
the charged aliveness of stepping into a live, breathing work of art.
Art that gets to be inhabited.

When we gathered to share after the experience, I could see it in their faces. How everyone looked more open, relaxed and calm.

One woman shared this:

She realized that what she'd been so worried about, the daily preoccupations taking up so much space in her mind, in the bigger picture of reality didn't matter THAT much.

It was all OK. REALLY OK.

She said it like she'd been released from something she didn't even know she was carrying.

This is what can happen when we step out of the mental spin and into the body.

A shift in perspective that isn't figured out. It's felt.

Leading these evenings feels like my fullest expression of Self.

If you're a woman who's been living from the neck up, efficient, capable, carrying everyone and everything, and some part of you is quietly longing to feel at home in your own body again:

Your body isn't a problem to fix. It's a partner to return to.

If any part of this feels like it might be you, I'd love to hear from you.

Hit reply and tell me: What does "coming home to your body" mean to you right now?

With love,

Kristen
